How Does Virtual IOP Create Structure Without Putting Life on Hold?

An online IOP program creates structure by scheduling several hours of live mental health treatment throughout the week while allowing participants to remain at home and continue many of their usual responsibilities. Instead of traveling to a treatment center or stepping away from everyday life completely, participants can receive consistent clinical support while continuing to work, parent, and manage their routines.

Vitalize Behavioral Health’s Virtual IOP provides live, structured treatment for adults across California who need more support than weekly therapy but cannot easily attend an in-person program.

When you need more structure but still want to stay connected to daily life, talk with Vitalize about Virtual IOP.

How Virtual IOP Fits Into Everyday Life

  • Treatment happens from home through live video sessions.
  • Sessions occur on a consistent weekly schedule.
  • Participants work with the same small group throughout treatment.
  • Individual therapy is incorporated alongside group sessions.
  • Psychiatric care can be coordinated virtually when appropriate.
  • There is no commute to and from a treatment center.

What Kind of Structure Does an Online IOP Provide?

Virtual treatment may happen at home, but it is still a structured clinical program.

At Vitalize, Virtual IOP generally involves about three sessions each week, with sessions lasting approximately three hours. Participants meet live over video with the same small cohort and work on practical cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills. A weekly individual session with a clinician is also incorporated into care.

That consistency creates regular points of connection throughout the week rather than leaving someone to manage everything independently between weekly therapy appointments.

Can You Work While Participating in Virtual IOP?

For many people, yes.

An online IOP program still requires a meaningful time commitment, but eliminating the commute can make treatment easier to fit around existing responsibilities.

For example, someone working during the day may be able to participate in treatment outside work hours rather than repeatedly leaving the office for appointments. A parent may be able to avoid arranging transportation to and from a clinic several times each week.

Vitalize also explains how Virtual IOP can work alongside a full-time job and why virtual care can be useful for adults balancing work, parenting, and family responsibilities.

Does Flexibility Mean Treatment Is Less Intensive?

No. Flexibility describes how someone accesses treatment, not how seriously the treatment is taken.

Participants still need to show up consistently, have a private place to join sessions, actively participate, and make time for the work involved in treatment.

Vitalize’s online intensive outpatient care is designed to provide structure, accountability, and clinician-led therapy without requiring participants to travel to a physical program.

Finding Support That Fits Your Life

Getting more mental health support does not always mean putting work, family, and everyday responsibilities completely on pause.

For the right person, an online IOP program can create a predictable treatment routine while leaving room for the parts of life they still need and want to maintain.

If weekly therapy is no longer enough but attending an in-person program feels difficult, contact Vitalize Behavioral Health to discuss whether Virtual IOP could fit your needs and schedule.

Background and Experience

Prior to joining Vitalize Behavioral Health, I gained valuable experience working with individuals experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns across diverse clinical settings. Clinical Director

I am a client-centered and ACT-focused clinician with a significant history working with children and adolescents. I deeply believe that therapy needs to be driven by the people we are working with, in order to achieve their own unique goals and personal ideals in regards to what they want their lives to be.

Areas of Specialization

  • Trauma
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • LGBTQ+
  • Children and Adolescents

Therapeutic Approach

I was trained as a person centered therapist through my graduate program and quickly gravitated towards acceptance and commitment therapy, which is a third wave behavioral therapy that focuses on acceptance of emotions and thoughts, coping effectively and committing to living our lives by our own values and ideals. I also utilize play therapy with younger clients that allows them to explore and process their emotions and struggles through a developmentally appropriate process. What clients can expect more than anything else is receiving therapy that is tailored to their needs. This would include exploring what gets in the way of them living how they want in a deep, meaningful way, developing skills and strategies that are tailored to their experience, and moving in a significant way towards the behaviors and goals they desire for themselves.

Education and Credentials

  • B.A. Psychology
  • M.S. Counseling
  • Marriage Family and Child Counseling, LMFT
  • Trained in Affirmative Therapy, Trauma-Informed Care, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

About Me

Primarily I gravitated towards becoming a therapist as I grew up with family members who needed mental health care in significant ways and I saw first hand how good, quality care benefitted them. I also attended therapy as a child and teenager and will be forever grateful that I saw competent, ethical therapists. Beyond that I am also a lifelong athlete who has seen the benefits of sports and meaningful experiences on people’s lives. I have been a whitewater river raft guide for the past 15 years and have worked on the Kings River and the American River.

REGIONAL CLINICAL DIRECTOR

As the Regional Clinical Director of the Adult IOP/PHP program, I bring over three years of experience in intensive outpatient care and six years in crisis intervention and emergency response alongside law enforcement. My clinical work is grounded in a psychodynamic approach through a trauma-informed lens, with a focus on helping clients understand how their past informs their present functioning. I became a therapist after starting my work as an emergency response advocate, where I supported individuals and families during some of their most difficult moments. Over time, I realized my true calling was in helping people not just survive those experiences, but heal from them, and that’s what led me to the deeper, ongoing work of therapy.
